VIRTUAL: Mental Wellbeing in Construction - workshop

Male site workers in construction are 3 times more likely to commit suicide than the average UK male (ONS 2018).

Despite many excellent initiatives within the construction industry and greater awareness of mental health and well-being; Male site workers in construction are three times more likely to commit suicide than the average UK male (ONS 2018).

The “tough guy” image widespread in the construction industry doesn’t help. Asking for help and opening up about emotions are not things that come naturally to many working in the industry.

There is a disconnect between the support offered by businesses and the people who most need to access that support. This results in many suffering in silence.

This virtual workshop will include useful information and statistics to get the conversation going, practical steps we can take to encourage people to come forward and examples of industry good practice and support sources.

By attending, you will understand:

  • How we can achieve culture change surrounding mental health disclosure and support starting at the top.
  • Why construction and why it's so important
  • Recognising the signs & encouraging peer support
  • Reducing stigma and changing attitude through good practice examples
