The Living Wage in Scotland: Motivations and benefits for the built environment sector Lunch N Learn

This 1 hour webinar with Living Wage Scotland will explore the benefits for companies and employees

What is this webinar about?

Launched by The Poverty Alliance in 2014, Living Wage Scotland works in partnership with the Living Wage Foundation and is funded by the Scottish Government to support employers with the process of Living Wage accreditation, and schemes that support fair work.

Lynn Anderson, Project Manager, Living Wage Scotland will give an overview of the 3,400 Scottish employers who are Living Wage accredited, meaning a pay boost for 64,200 workers to the new rate of £12 per hour. Accreditation in Scotland has delivered more than £485 million of extra wages to the pockets of low paid workers. At this webinar, Living Wage Scotland will reflect on the key motivators and business benefits of Living Wage and Living Hours for employers operating in the built environment, and share solutions on ways employers can overcome challenges to implementing these measures in their business models and supply chains.

Mary Alexander, Co-Chair of the Fairwork Convention will explore the Living Wage and Living Pension particularly in relation to the issues highlighted in their Construction Industry Inquiry report in relation to the Living Wage and Living Pensions.

Mia McCarthy, Head of Sustainability, Ireland, SSE will set out how SSE became one of the UK’s first major employers to gain its Living Wage accreditation in 2013. Hear how SSE has taken an active role in promoting the principles of fair wages, including rolling the Living Wage out through its UK supply chain, paying the Living Wage in Ireland, becoming one of the first companies in the UK to become a Living Hours employer in 2021.

Mia will explore  how, a decade on, SSE’s commitment to the Living Wage remains steadfast and the Perth-based company has today announced its commitment to being a Living Pensions employer, which seeks to provide stability and security for workers now and into the future. It is one of only 25 companies to become Living Pensions Accredited, the first energy company to do so and also one of less than 11 companies to be Living Hours, Living Wage and Living Pensions Accredited.
