What will this webinar cover?

This webinar will explore the role of supply chain innovation in achieving the National Highways Net Zero Plan in relation to low carbon innovation.

The session will focus on the requirements for the Scheme Delivery Framework and will also look ahead at the next framework requirements - enabling early sight of National Highways plans ahead. All frameworks and National Highways colleagues are also welcome to attend.

Mark Emmett, Central Carbon Team Leader will give an overview of the Carbon Management System and expectations from this for the Scheme Delivery Framework supply chain. He will also discuss how National Highways are supporting projects giving details of guidance available for suppliers.

Natalie Bird, Principal Asset Sustainability Advisor will introduce the Low Carbon Opportunities Register, what it is and how to use it to find carbon reduction opportunities to implement in your scheme. Supplier input will be very welcome in the Questions and Answers during this webinar.

Melissa Giusti, Principal Innovation Advisor, SES and Imran Janjua, Innovation Manager, National Highways will explore how National Highways are investing in new innovations through the Low Carbon Accelerator. They will give a detailed overview of the program as well as spotlighting some key projects already underway looking at the carbon savings and benefits from these to show how the accelerator can provide a stepchange through supplier innovation.

This Lunch 'N' Learn will enable suppliers to:

  • consider how they can bring forward ideas for innovation to reduce emissions
  • work collaboratively to enable National Highways to reach its goal to make the road network net zero by 2050 and for net zero emissions from construction and maintenance by 2040
  • find out how they can gain support from National Highways as they constantly evolve and to enable a proactive approach
  • explore how to take forward their own innovative ideas to reduce emissions such as through cement, or steel or alternatives or find innovative ways to recycle materials.

The National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), announced in 2021, brings together 50 supply chain partners to carry out up to £3.6 billion worth of renewals to keep England’s motorways and major A roads running safely and smoothly over a 6 year period.  The Supply Chain School is supporting the SDF suppliers and sub-contractors with training workshops to increase understanding, skills and performance on several key sustainability issues.
