The twin crises of climate breakdown and biodiversity loss are unfolding rapidly and sometimes irreversibly, requiring bold and urgent action. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has announced a “code red for humanity” through their latest report, whilst cities and communities across the world are confronted with the impacts – wildfires, floods and dangerous heatwaves to name a few.
The built environment contributes to nearly 40% of global carbon emissions and has a significant impact on our natural habitats. Taking action against the climate and biodiversity emergencies is undoubtedly the most pressing issue for everyone working in the construction sector.
On Wednesday 22nd September, UK Contractors Declare will be hosting a webinar in partnership with the Supply Chain Sustainability School to explore how the construction industry can decarbonise the built environment through:
- Accelerating the shift to low embodied carbon building materials, particularly through the concrete and steel sectors
- Achieving net zero carbon for building operations
You will hear from:
- James Cadman, Lead Consultant, Action Sustainability and the Supply Chain Sustainability School
- Callum Tuckett, Managing Director, Multiplex Europe
- Munish Datta, Director of Membership and Operations, UKGBC
- Elaine Toogood, Head of Architecture, The Concrete Centre
- Neil Tilley, Senior Technical Sales Engineer & Business Development, ArcelorMittal
- Clara Bagenal George, London Energy Transformation Initiative
