Climate Change & People - facilitated by Helen Carter from the Supply Chain Sustainability School

This session will examine the impact on people from climate change. In a rapidly changing world we see the impact of climate change on individuals, communities and countries. Obvious examples are mass migration and population shifts, but there are many less direct impacts such as the changing world of employment as countries switch to renewable energies and away from traditional oil/gas energy production and supply chains.

A just transition seeks to ensure that the substantial benefits of a green economy transition are shared widely, while also supporting those who stand to lose economically – be they countries, regions, industries, communities, workers or consumers.

A rapid increase in the speed and scale of actions required to reduce the risks of climate change is create huge new economic opportunities – but economies, governments and major industries need to ensure that labour markets can adapt and workforces can align to these new opportunities.

SSEN has a Just Transition strategy which will be presented as part of this session. We will look at what individuals and companies can consider to play their own active role in a Just Transition, and take a balanced approach to the climate crisis.

This session forms part of the Climate Academy, a series of six online learning sessions available to charities, organisations, and businesses (including our existing and potential supply chain partners) across SSEN licence areas. The Climate Academy supports SSEN’s commitment to assisting other organisations on their transition to net zero.
