Inclusive Recruitment (Sizewell C) - Workshop
This session is one of a series of webinars and workshops being provided for Sizewell C as part of its Supplier Development Programme.
What will this session cover?
The existing built environment offers a multitude of job opportunities and career paths. However, it can be challenging for minority and excluded groups to secure interviews and then turn interviews into jobs and careers. The same challenges can exist for minority owned businesses seeking to supply.
This workshop focuses on what is being done to open up career paths and supply opportunities for minority and excluded groups.
What will I learn?
This workshop will help you to understand:
- A better understanding of why inclusive recruitment and supply is so important
- Tips on how to be more successful as an employer, an applicant or a supplier
- Advice on where to go for help, whether you are doing the recruiting, are a job applicant, or a prospective supplier.
What will I achieve?
On completion of this module learners will be able to:
- Understand how to build inclusive practice into all stages of the recruitment and selection process
- Assess current practices in your own business
- Take away tools and tips to make changes needed to promote and embed inclusive practices in your own ways of working
- Learn from industry specific good practice examples
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the types of unconscious bias, and their impact on the recruitment process
- Have awareness of the power of assumption, association and preference
- Appreciation of what drives ideas of cultural ‘fit’ in an organisation
- Use practical tools needed to design person specifications and selection
- Develop criteria that are fair, clear and avoid adverse impact
- Have greater confidence in managing own bias in interviews or decision making
- Demonstrate the ability to identify unconscious bias in others and challenge it
- Understand the legal requirements on recruitment selection
What level is the workshop and do I need any particular skills?
This masterclass is aimed at anyone whose role and decisions can impact how and who we recruit and select – hiring managers, recruiters, HR, policy makers etc. - anyone involved in the recruitment and selection process.
